The Upper Yarra Valley Garden Club was established in 1984 by a group of garden lovers. Our organisation is affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society of Victoria Inc.
Our membership is steadily growing and currently stands at over 80 Members. The Club meets every 3rd Monday of the month at Oscars on the Yarra, Warburton Highway, Warburton. The night is often complemented by a speaker from horticultural societies and other community organisations or with hands-on demonstrations. We hold plant raffles and have a trading table where Members bring in their plants or produce to raise funds for the Club and the night includes a light supper.
Flower and Produce Shows are held every Spring and Autumn. We also have monthly garden walks at various Members gardens. This is held on the Monday morning, a week after the member’s meeting night with a BYO morning tea. During the summer months this becomes an evening garden walk with Members bringing along a light supper.
The Club also has “Winter Warmer” for its Members in June or July which is held at a Club Members Home. Members bring and share their favourite sweet and the Club provides soup and a sausage sizzle. There are also bus tours and car pool trips organised to visit gardens and other places of interest.
Our main event for the year is the Open Gardens Weekend which is held in early November. Generally, we have 5 or 6 gardens open and these are located in the Upper Yarra Valley area. This event is very popular and we have had garden lovers from all parts of Victoria visit these gardens each year. The garden owners look forward to this event to show off their labour of love. The weekend finishes with a dinner at a local venue.
